Opiate Treatment Program (Methadone Treatment)
Located in Alachua County, (Gainesville). The Opiate Treatment Program (OTP) helps persons addicted to opiates make major lifestyle changes. This is accomplished by first substituting methadone, a synthetic narcotic, or suboxone / subutex for heroin or other opiates. Methadone is taken orally and usually lasts 24-30 hours. In proper dosages, there is no narcotic high, which permits clients to establish a stabilized lifestyle.
In order to assist persons served in making lifestyle changes, a comprehensive life skills curriculum is part of the OTP. These life skills include, but are not limited to: communication skills, social skills, anger management skills, nutrition education, medication education, money management skills, employment skills, parenting skills, stress management skills, time management skills, problem solving/decision making skills, values clarification, goal setting skills, physical/emotional abuse, hygiene and self-care skills, GED/vocational training skills.
Family counseling and education are provided to engage families in treatment and enhance family member understanding of treatment and recovery. A physician is available to clients four times weekly for general medical services; psychiatric services are provided by appointment only. Follow-up medication management clinics occur monthly.
